The Ministry of Education created a new Information Management and Support Branch on April 1, 2011 to be responsible for instigating, maintaining and monitoring information management activities for the Ministry of Education to ensure a strategic approach to information management in the Ministry. The branch brings together the Business and Technology Solutions Unit, the Sector Technologies and Network Services Unit, the Student and Teacher Services Unit, and a new Data Value and Interpretation Unit, with a responsibility to ensure the information and data collected by the Ministry supports the Ministry and sectors’ strategic objectives and to manage the related information and technical infrastructure.
The Information Management and Support Branch of the Ministry of Education fulfills this purpose by:

Setting the strategic direction for information management in order to facilitate information sharing and effective application of collaboratively created information within the organization.

Ensuring that information management strategies and activities are proactively linked to strategic business objectives and support the Ministry’s business requirements.

Providing leadership to the Ministry of Education and education sector stakeholders in: supporting the achievement of the government and Ministry goals and objectives by applying a strategic analysis to the creation and management of information and the related data; treating information as an enterprise and strategic asset for the Ministry by developing and implementing an Information Management Framework and related policies, risk assessment plan, change management plan and implementation plan, and ensuring that the Framework and policies address privacy and freedom of information legislation and policy.

Overseeing the development and implementation of the Ministry’s information technology strategic plan and ensuring alignment between the Ministry and sector information management and information technology strategic plans.

Maximizing the use of information resources, information technology resources, and the information infrastructure, with particular emphasis on ensuring that information is available to the right people, in the right place, at the right time in the right format.

Supporting integration of information and systems through consistent standards and architectures.
